If you have a dog that you have found or that needs a home, email here to have the dog posted. Notices must include contact information, and a picture is helpful. We will try to keep the posting up as long as possible, but if it gets too full, the first one on will be the first taken off. And PLEASE let us know if your posted pup finds a home. That way we can make room for others not as fortunate.

PUPS does not and can not function as a rescue organization. We simply do not have the resources. Our members are obviously a group of caring individuals and as such, FGP has become a desirable place to leave an unwanted dog. This is not a situation that is likely to change soon. Many of us have rescued dogs in the past; at some point, it's just your turn, so here are a few tips on
WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A STRAY:

  • first and foremost, this is your responsibility. It is by no means your obligation, but if you do decide to help the dog, you must do the work.
  • that said, contact the area shelters; it's possible that the dog is lost, and owners will often contact the local shelters first. There are some listed on the PUPS site, and a more comprehensive list can be found at urbanhound.com
  • If you can not board the dog yourself, either bring the dog to a no-kill shelter or call the CACC. They are the only shelter that will come get a dog, but they are a kill shelter. While they do their best to get dogs adopted, this may not be the case.
  • Reach out to your own network of family, friends, your job. This can not be overstated! PUPS members already HAVE a dog, or two, or three, and therefore reaching out to this group is not your best bet to find a home for a stray. You should however reach out to your park buddies for support i.e., if you need a car to transport a dog to a shelter.
  • Make flyers and post them everywhere, and be sure to include a picture of the dog if you can.
  • Post the dog on petfinders.org. This site exists solely for the purpose of finding dogs homes. Owners who have lost dogs also post there. Additionally, it lists literally hundreds of shelters in the tri-state area. Also Pets911 is a nationwide Internet and telephone clearing house for emergency information about cats and dogs. www.1888PETS911.org or (888) 738-7911 You can find a lost cat or dog; report finding a lost cat or dog; locate the nearest adoption facility; identify the nearest emergency veterinary clinic; or obtain an assortment of other pet-related information.
  • Have the dog seen by a vet. You are far more likely to find a home for a dog who has a clean bill of health.
  • Your concern is admirable and we share your desire to see strays placed in a good and loving homes. If we all share in the responsibility hopefully we can see all these dogs placed.
